PAFA Recognises Professional Accountancy Organisations Admitted to IFAC Membership
Johannesburg, South Africa, 20 January 2025 – The Pan African Federation of Accountants (PAFA) proudly recognises three professional accountancy organisations (PAOs) from Africa that achieved the significant milestone of becoming Associate members of the International Federation of Accountants (IFAC) in 2024. The organisations, admitted at the November 2024 IFAC Council meeting, are:
Ordre National des Experts Comptables Algériens (ONECCA Algeria)
Ordre des Professionnels Comptables du Burundi (OPC Burundi)
Ordre National des Experts Comptables du Gabon (ONECCA Gabon)
This milestone reflects their commitment to high-quality accountancy standards and professional development. PAFA congratulates ONECCA Algeria, OPC Burundi, and ONECCA Gabon on their achievements, which mark a significant step in advancing the accountancy profession across Africa.
We also extend our recognition and gratitude to the PAOs that mentored these PAOs, working collaboratively with PAFA to ensure successful IFAC membership applications:
South African Institute of Professional Accountants (SAIPA) sponsor of ONECCA Algeria
Institute of Certified Public Accountants of Kenya (ICPAK) sponsor of OPC Burundi
Ordre National des Experts Comptables du Cameroun (ONECCA-Cameroon) sponsor of ONECCA Gabon.
The mentorship and support provided by SAIPA, ICPAK, and ONECCA-Cameroon highlight the power of collaboration within the accountancy profession. These efforts contribute to the growth and influence of the profession across Africa, aligning with PAFA’s mission to strengthen the capacity and impact of the accountancy profession while enhancing trade, service quality, and institutional trust to benefit economies across the continent.
Below are statements from the leadership of the sponsoring PAOs:
“SAIPA believes that Africa has immense potential to offer. The continent’s strength lies in unity, transcending our differences. We encourage other PAOs, especially in Africa, to strengthen the regional and global recognition of accountancy through enhanced collaboration and knowledge sharing, ultimately elevating the profession worldwide”. — CPA Dr Grace Kamau, Chief Executive Officer, ICPAK
“ONECCA Cameroon congratulates ONECCA Gabon on becoming an Associate Member of IFAC. ONECCA Cameroon will continue to play its leading role in the Economic and Monetary Community of Central Africa (CEMAC) region by working to ensure that all PAOs within the region achieve membership of IFAC”. — William Ngwa, President, ONECCA Cameroon
