Message from the CEO of PAFA; Vickson Ncube
The International Women’s Day is a global day to celebrate the achievements of women across socio-economic, cultural and political endeavours, and to encourage the efforts of industries to promote gender balance in the work place. #IWD2019 #balanceforbetter
The African Union’s blueprint to the socio-economic enhancement of Africa, “Agenda2063”, highlights its mission for ‘The Africa we want’ under Aspiration 6; “An Africa, whose development is people-driven, relying on the potential of African people, especially its women and youth, and caring for children.”
Agenda 2063 emphasises the need for the continent to pay special focus on the potential of women. This is informed by the recognition that the distinct roles played by women and men in earlier dispensations have, by and large, disappeared. Gender parity is a key component to the realisation of “The Africa we want – An integrated, prosperous and peaceful Africa, driven by her own citizens and representing a dynamic force in the international arena.”
PAFA celebrates the role women leaders in the accountancy profession have contributed towards its development. A number of PAFA member Professional Accountancy Organisations have been, are being, and will be led by women as Presidents or Chief Executive Officers.
Special mention must be made of Ms. Asmaa Resmouki who became the first PAFA female President, and currently serving on the Board of the International Federation of Accountants (IFAC). The accountancy profession in Africa deserves a pat on the back for appointing its female President within four years of the formation of PAFA, and for its continued realisation of the significant contributions of its many -past to present- female CEOs and Presidents.
Ladies…we salute you all!
PAFA continues to reinforce the important role of women in the spotlight of its flagship event: Africa Congress of Accountants (ACOA), and the upcoming ACAO2019 in Marrakech Morocco is no exception, with a formidable line up of speakers focused on the plenary topic; “Gender Parity: A Critical Pillar for attaining the Africa we want”. #ACOA2019
